Day 2 - Wenatchee, WA to Coulee Dam, WA

Gorgeous Sunshiny start to the day! Mileage was supposed to be 94, with 4,500 feet of climbing. Due to some extra credit and a minor cue sheet issue we ended up with 106 miles. I didn't have my Garmin on after the first stop in Waterville to somewhere around Whitehall Rd.
Today's terrain was so different then yesterday - it was amazingly dry on the route, lots of canyons and dry fields. We had gusts of wind from 40-50mph - which as my fellow cyclists know that can be a great thing if it's coming from behind you! Which if you check out the pics - I have an example of the wheat going sideways. I really wanted to sneak my camera out of my back pocket and take a picture of my Garmin and cycle computer which read 36mph, going slightly UP hill AND a heart rate of 117! Active recovery - oh yeah! But Craig was behind me and I knew he'd give me the business - 'Safety never takes a break", "you have to stay focused", yada yada... The other thing about a wind like that is when you are going down the side of the canyon at 48mph (using my brakes!) and you get hit with a gust - SCARY!!

I rode with some fun folks today - Susan (Chicago), Ernie (Seattle?), Paul (Australia) - loads of fun! At one point we thought we hit the top of a climb and we started joking about a sprint to the top at which point, Paul started saying 'well, c'mon Vikki' As Craig F. can attest - I can't turn down a challenge - even if it was short lived! (Sorry I can't remember the names of others)

We rode along Banks Lake for miles - it was gorgeous! We had lunch along it's bank - and guess what we had - you guessed it my favorite - hot dogs! Hail to the mighty hot dog!!! YUMMY! That's one good thing about burning 6,000+ calories today - I ate my second favorite thing for dinner - a fish sandwich - no not from McD's - but it did have cheese and lots of tartar! Hey fish is an excellent source of protein and omega-3s! There was also a cool sign that I took a picture of that I'll upload tomorrow, "Wild Life - Parking" - ok it looks funnier than it sounds!

We had dinner with Rodger (Germany), Walt (OH w/ 20,000 miles!!), Bob (VA) and Michelle (MS) - great dinner conversation - get this Walt did the RAAM - Yes the Race Across America - several times! Brevets - long distance cycling event where cyclist follow an unmarked route through check-points - 200-1400k! I think Milford needs to get on this - Joe?
If we can make it the dam has a laser light show at 10pm - I sure hope they play some Pink Floyd for it!!
BTW- Thanks everyone for all the comments! I love them! I didn't realize I had any til today.

I'm going to forward your blog to my sister Rachel. You've never met her but you would love her because she's very active like you and Craig.
