Day 4 - Spokane, WA to Sand Point, ID

Sorry folks, but I'm really tired today even though it was a short day. I think from staying up late the since I started. I was hoping to go to bed early today but Sand Point, ID is a very cool small town and we were captivated by the ambiance and walked around had dinner with a bunch of us from the group at Spuds they serve super fresh local cuisine. I had sweet potato encrusted sockeye salmon and curry veggies - oh my!
Looks great doesn't it!? Then we strolled back and ran into a group from the tour at McDuff's Brewery and visited with them for a few, stopped at the local Gelatoria - where all the stuff is imported from Italy and she made it that morning - yowza! We also met a very neat girl named Autumn - who had lived all over the world, trained for an Olympic sport and teaches Kindergarten all at the tender age of 22!!! Hence, I'm starting this late again, darn it!!

Back to the start of today- it was actually a brisk morning so I had to wear my windbreaker since we had a very fun descent out of the hotel. We went through downtown Spokane and headed on out for the day. BTW, what is the schedule for the day typically, someone asked? Well we get up around 5:30am, finish getting our stuff ready and head to breakfast which PAC puts on with tons of yummy goodness to add fuel to the body for the day (fruit, cereal, milk, bagels, oatmeal, pastries, etc.), we take our bikes with us get them on the stands, pump up the tires so they are ready to roll, then we head back to the room grab our bags and get that down on the truck and head out - the last few days it's been around 7:10-7:20ish. We ride along and chat with people we come to or get passed by. There are at least two rest stops and a lunch - again all well stocked with salty, carb-loading, deliciousness. Today at lunch we had burgers - beans - and all kinds of salads and sides. Then we ride to the hotel, wash our bikes, clean and lub our chains and start getting our stuff together for the next day. We do laundry, get a massage if we signed up (and we had today - ahhh!!) and of course get some food in our bellies. So that's the basic schedule. Rinse, repeat!

Today we crossed into another state - WooooHOOOO!!! - Idaho! It was so cool. We stopped and took pictures - Of course and even one of the Washington sign too. We also saw two golden eagles, a crane and nesting ospreys - Isn't this country amazing?! It was incredible to be on this ride today and take in all of the scenery. We saw a lot of people from the group on the ride today too, which makes it fun at the rest stops and such to catch up with them or get to know them better. Scott we did ride the bike path in to Sand Point it was very pretty!!

I have a funny sign that we saw when we walked into downtown. The street is a 6-7 lane street so at some of the cross streets they have these buckets with flags in them so you can use them to get across the street without a light. Here is a picture of the instructions. Enjoy! Also, I will upload more pics from today tomorrow - because now it is after 10 and I want to go to sleep!!

  1. Ok Vik, sounds like all you're doing is eating on this trip. I feel like you're on a food tour rather than a bike tour. HA!! Just being a Smart Ass. Hope you're having fun. We miss you. Keep posting the pictures. Sue
