Today was 128 miles, 5,690 feet of climbing and a 7:00pm massage - oh yes! People mentioned that I should put something on my blog to count - like the number of mean people, road kill, etc. Well, today it was the pictures of stuff I should have taken - the "Fish Crossing" and "Look out for Fish" signs - yes they were real! The other one was the "Adopt A Highway" sign that designated it's supporter as the local nudist colony - LOVE it!
The weather started out overcast - perfect - no hot sun beating down on you. We started out just ourselves and another rider, Wes from Virginia joined us. I of course, had the cue sheet tucked safely in the leg of my shorts - I hate to be lost - yes, it's part of my control freak nature.
Today we would go over Steven's Pass - the ride up to it was incredible we were on Route 2 but took some alternate routes, the first one was awesome, no traffic lots of trees, the river beside us and up, up, up. However the next route was up the Old Highway and it was less than desirable, gravel spots where the old road had worn away, a really cool wood bridge we had to dismount and walk over (mile 66.5 mind you), again - up, up, and up - when I hit the gravel I could only think - this is cruel and unusual punishment. The good thing was that we didn't have the traffic whizzing by. We stopped for lunch and Susan had an awesome spread of much needed food - including fresh veggie salads with brown rice and feta cheese - DE-LISH!
The last 20 miles took forever - I had two flats along the way - and remember I mentioned the cloud cover earlier - not so much while I was trying to change my tires. We finally arrived at the hotel! We both had massages with Jonathon - oh yeah! Deep tissue anyone?! It was awesome!
Then off to gorge on some yummy food to do it all over again tomorrow!!
Hopefully, these won't be so lame but I gotta tell you - I'm tired!!!
Ouch, two flats in the last 20 miles, after all that climbing? I'd have had a hard time dealing with that one.
