I know, I know, why Cactus Flower? Well, as you can see from the title banner and the uber cute picture of my very first bike, NON-hand-me-down-came from my cousins-Jean,Margaret, Donna- then my Sister-Ang - then to me bikes - THE Cactus Flower Huffy -AWWWAAHHH the rays of sun shown upon her! Yes, straight from the box - well sorta my dad had it put together before I even saw the box. It was LOVE at first site and I would risk my life in our garage day NASCAR type racing to not get a scratch on her. And what a long brake line she could leave on the garage floor - oh ya! (Sorry dad!)
So, I honor her in this blog for driving my love of bicycling - the wind in my face, the freedom it gave me, and the sheer joy of pedaling. (single speed bliss at it's finest)
My first was my beloved Scwinn Grey Ghost,1975. Banana seat,FULL SUSPENSION,chopper style handle bars and a 12 inch front wheel. Vicky, you have no idea how jealous I am. Kinda getting misty for travels gone by, trips remember and the amazement of what you have just begun. I am wishing like hell I could have made time this summer to ride number 5 with you. But since it wasnt in the cards know that I am living vicariously through you this summer and cant wait to pull out my old pictures and compare them with yours.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, am I still spelling your name wrong after all these years??? VIKKI, here's another seed to plant. In three years when I turn 45, how about a group ride from north to south. Northern Washington to San Diego (3 weeks) OR if you and Craig are really feeling frisky, Canada/montana boarder to Mex/New Mexico boarder along the Great Divide (5 weeks). Just throwing it out there since you have a couple weeks to let the seeds grow:)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Stevens pass. The ride down to leavenworth is AMAZING... Scott J
Really, my name's in Vikki's blog...I'm so famous. I really love being able to read about your adventure and so very glad you are "living the dream". Lots of my love is going across the country with you. Cousin Jean
